Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine should be a center for Holy Quran: chief custodian

Astan Quds Razavi has planned to turn Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine into a center for training reciters, memorizers and interpreters of the Holy Quran.

Hawzah News Agency - (Mashhad - Iran) - Astan Quds Razavi has planned to turn Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine into a center for training reciters, memorizers and interpreters of the Holy Quran.

Hoj. Ahmad Marvi, the chief custodian of Astan Quds Razavi said the above in a meeting with the Quran reciters’ community of the holy shrine, stressing that Quran has the first priority in the holy shrine followed by the interpretation and dissemination of the teachings of the Infallible Imams (AS).

“All the hardships that the Infallible Imams (AS) endured and finally martyred for were to revive the Holy Quran. We cannot remove the Quran from the AQR programs or make it faint and ceremonial; otherwise, on the Day of Judgment, we will not be able to answer for the divine gift entrusted to us,” he said.

He pointed out that various Quranic activities have seen growth after the victory of the Islamic Revolution; However, AQR must help the Quranic affairs, especially among the younger generation by encouraging and training them actively.

He considered the growing range of Quranic sciences and knowledge as one of the blessings of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s special care and attention to Quran and the community and his emphasis on the necessity of the Quran in social life and the need for more contemplation.

The chief custodian reached out to the Quranic activists of the country to help promote AQR Quranic activities by presenting their plans and proposals.

“Reviving and establishing home and local courses helps strengthening the Holy Quran in the community; It is good to plan and work for the resurgence of these circles in homes and mosques. The influence of the Quran in face-to-face meetings and encounters is more effective than seeing it through the mass media. We must preserve these traditional courses and pulpits,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his speech, referring to the sound of the recitation of prominent Egyptian reciters in the shrine of Hazrat Reza (AS), he added, “Sometimes congregational prayers in the holy shrine are accompanied by the use of the voices of prominent Egyptian reciters; this does not mean that Iranian reciters are ignored. Some pilgrims like the sound of the Egyptian reciters.”

Hoj. Marvi described some Egyptian reciters such as Mustafa Ismail, Minshawi, Abdul Basit, etc. as having a special voice and able to convey a special feeling to the listeners. “Many of these reciters have memorized the Quran as children and many have converted to Islam by listening to their recitation.”

“I think Goharshad Mosque should have live recitations. The mosque is a place for reciting Quran and it is good to increase the recitation time from about 5 minutes to half an hour. The formation of Quranic circles should not be limited to the month of Ramadan,” he commented.

“This slogan is our goal and belief that we should reach Imam Reza through the Quran and we should use the meaning and concepts of the verses of Quran in order to influence the society and hereby I appreciate the distinguished Iranian reciters and memorizers participating in the international Quran competitions for presenting the blessed product of the Islamic Revolution to the world,” he remarked.

During the ceremony which lasted more than two hours, several memorizers and reciters, while expressing their views, recited verses from Quran and Hoj. Gonabadi, the AQR Deputy Office for Islamic Ideology Dissemination presented a report on the Quranic activities of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
