اَللّـهُمَّ اجْعَلْني فيهِ مِنْ الْمُسْتَغْفِرينَ،

O Allah, on this day, place me among those who seek forgiveness.

وَاجْعَلْني فيهِ مِنْ عِبادِكَ الصّالِحينَ اْلقانِتينَ،

Place me among Your righteous and obedient servants,

وَاجْعَلني فيهِ مِنْ اَوْلِيائِكَ الْمُقَرَّبينَ،

and place me among Your close friends,

بِرَأْفَتِكَ يا اَرْحَمَ الرّاحِمينَ.

by Your kindness, O the most Merciful.

True forgiveness-seeking and repentance

Indeed, true repentance is far beyond merely stating it in words or showing remorse for one’s past misdeeds and deciding to keep away from sins in the future. True repentance involves compensating for one’s past misdeeds, eliminating the corrupt character qualities which transgressions gradually create within one’s soul, and making amends for adverse social effects of one’s transgressions as much as possible.
