Chelmsford Muslim Society issues open letter amid plans to make leisure centre home to a mosque

Hamptons Sports and Leisure Centre on Tydemans was put up for sale in late 2018, with the current owner, Nav Johar, claiming it was a "commercial decision".

Hawzah News Agency (Chelmsford - UK) - Great Baddow residents have had their say on the potential plans to transform a Chelmsford leisure centre into a mosque.

Hamptons Sports and Leisure Centre on Tydemans was put up for sale in late 2018, with the current owner, Nav Johar, claiming it was a "commercial decision".

It was revealed in November last year that the Chelmsford Muslim Society had placed a bid for the centre and have now raised the £2.5 million needed to complete the takeover.

The society's secretary, Ayman Syed, issued an open letter earlier this week outlining the full plans for the centre going forward - and residents have now had their say.

A public meeting was held at the sports centre on Thursday evening (January 30) in which residents had the chance to ask questions to representatives from Chelmsford City Council and other groups about the plans.
