Hawzah News Agency (Blackburn - UK) - More than £14,000 was raised for the East Lancashire Hospice during this year's Ramadan.

To celebrate the effort made by all those who donated, a special event was put on for representatives from mosques across the region to hear how their contributions help support the charity.

During Sunday’s event, speeches were given by a hospice patient, family member, doctor and trustee to talk about how the hospice helps those who need it and the difference the care can make.

Blackburn with Darwen councillor, Suleman Khonat, a huge supporter of the hospice, said: “It was very touching to see the efforts of all involved and to see so many people come and support and raise awareness of the good work of the h “We’ve raised an amazing amount and, year on year, more and more are contributing.

“I’d like to thank all the Masjids for giving me the opportunity to talk about East Lancashire Hospice and the special way of caring they provide both in the hospice and at home.

“Also a big thank you to all the volunteers and fundraisers and all those who helped.

“We are going to carry on and continue to help such a worthy cause.”

During Ramadan, collections were held at mosques and also in The Mall, Blackburn, with the total amount raised £14,641.12.

Following the speeches, an Indian food buffet was put on, which was donated by Star Tissues.

Sharon Crymble, from the hospice, said: “It was fabulous to see so many representatives from the mosques, local to our hospice, take the time to come and listen to how important it is to spread the word about what we do and what a difference their contribution makes.

“Suleman Khonat has worked tirelessly to spread this message and, this year alone, he visited 23 mosques during Ramadan to both deliver the message and collect donations.
