Bolton mosque reveals plans for Madrassa at former mill

Plans to change the use of part of the former mill building were approved in August 2012.

Hawzah News Agency (Bolton, UK) - New plans for an education facility at a former mill have been revealed.

The vacant St Pauls Mill is used by Ghosia Mosque as a community worship and education facility.

The mosque in Caroline Street wants to create a number of new dedicated classrooms, moving the existing educational element, known as a Madrassa, to another part of the building.

Plans to change the use of part of the former mill building were approved in August 2012.

This included creating classrooms, a library, office, meeting room, quiet study and a storage room.

It has operated for several years without any known harm to residential amenity, according to the latest planning application.

It said: "The proposal would enable a highly regarded local community facility better serve local people without resulting in adverse impact to the character and appearance of the local area, on amenity or on the local highway network."

Town hall officers are expected to make a decision by the end of August.
