Fire at Kutupalong Rohingya camp guts ۳۰ houses, mosque

During a fire at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Bangladesh two Rohingyas were injured while trying to douse the fire

Hawzah News Agency (Ukhiya, Bangladesh) – A fire has gutted 30 houses and a mosque in Cox's Bazar's Kutupalong Rohingya camp.

The fire broke out at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp No 5 in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, around 12:30pm on Wednesday.

Two Rohingyas were injured while trying to douse the fire.

 

 

They are currently receiving treatment at the local Red Crescent hospital.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Ukhiya Fire Station In-Charge Emdauld Haque said: "Two units of the Ukhiya Fire Service operated at the scene and brought the fire under control. 

 

 

"Two Rohingyas were injured while trying to douse the fire. We suspect that the fire originated from one of the gas cylinders used at the camp."

"A total of 30 houses and a mosque were gutted by the fire," he added.

 

 

Leader of the Rohingya camp, Md. Abdur Rahim said: "We saw thick clouds of smoke coming from the camp. The residents here tried to douse the fire.

"Later, firefighters responded to our call and brought the fire under control."

 

 

Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nikaruzzaman Chowdhury said: "Firefighters responded as soon as they received the news of the fire and brought it under control.
