More than 7,000 people are expected to attend Nottingham's largest outdoor Islamic festival.

More than 7,000 people are expected to attend Nottingham's largest outdoor Islamic festival.

The Muslim Cultural Festival - which takes place at the Forest Recreation Ground from 12pm to 6pm - is organised by Karimia Institute, a Nottingham-based charity that works to support its local community.

The Karimia Institute has been running the event for the last five years, but this year it has changed its name which was previously Nottingham Eid Festival.

Families and communities from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome on Sunday, July 21, for a day out as organisers try to "promote community cohesion".

The annual event will include live performances , funfair rides, bouncy castles, and a "mini bazaar" with a wide range of stall displays including cultural clothing, food, jewellery and literature.

A spokesperson for the event said "the diverse cultures and traditions of Nottingham's Muslim community" will be on show - such as those from Syrian and Nigerian backgrounds.

Speaking to NottinghamshireLive about the festival, Shahid Shabir - centre manager at Bobbers Mill community centre, where Karimia are based - said he is looking forward to seeing a large, diverse crowd of people on Sunday.

"Last year around 7,000 people attended and this year we are targeting over 10,000 people to attend the festival. I encourage everyone to attend this Sunday 21st July to experience the different cultural Muslim traditions around the world.
