Hawzah News Agency (Virginia, US) – Charlottesville police are investigating a hit-and-run on Pine Street that occurred near the Islamic Society of Central Virginia.
At about 11:10 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 700 block of Pine Street for the report of a male struck on the arm by a passing vehicle. He declined medical attention.
The vehicle was last seen driving south on Ninth Street Southwest and is described as a dark-colored sedan, according to police.
At this time, it is not believed the victim was intentionally targeted, but police have increased patrols in the area "as a precautionary and safety measure."
City police spokesman Tyler Hawn said Chief RaShall Brackney has reached out and spoken to ISCV leaders and has offered support in any way.
ISCV has started a GoFundMe to raise $30,000 for security updates and other programs.
"During this blessed month of Ramadan, we appeal to you to help us in securing the only mosque in Charlottesville," the page says. "Your donations will not only help secure our mosque, but it will keep all of our programs running without any worries."
End.
