Families there are concerned following the tragedy at two mosques in New Zealand that left dozens dead.
Facing the reality of the time we live in, children at the Berlin mosque were filled with worries.
“What would you do if there is more than one person that’s going to harm?” one child said.
Mosque leaders thought this conversation with Berlin police about active shooters was important to have.
The mosque’s Director of Education Fatma Antar said, “At the same time it was sad and it was sad to hear the kids asking these types of questions."
The mosque said many parents were concerned about sending their children here after the tragedy in New Zealand.
50 people were killed at two mosques in Christchurch last month.
“As soon as we heard about New Zealand, we were getting all of those emails and messages amongst the teachers and parents like how can we keep our kids safe?” teacher and parent Tasnuba Hoque said.
“The mosque is trying to provide this training for all of the parents, all the teachers. So you know if there ever was a situation like this how to save yourself, how to save the students, all the other members of this mosque,” Hoque continued.
So families received training that has become common at schools and businesses. The training was led by Detective Ted Fuini.
“The big takeaways from anything like this is just not being scared and living your life in fear. But being able to have a plan of what would I do if something was going wrong?” Fuini said.
