Muslim Council of Britain:

The Muslim Council of Britain has accused the Conservative Party of ‘ignoring Islamophobia until it goes away’ and has called for an inquiry into Islamophobia in the party.

Hawzah News Agency (London, UK) – The Muslim Council of Britain has accused the Conservative Party of ‘ignoring Islamophobia until it goes away’ and has called for an inquiry into Islamophobia in the party. It was reported earlier today that comments were posted on a Boris Johnson Facebook group, which called Muslims ‘ragheads’ – and one council candidate was accused of supporting ‘bombing mosques’. Former Newcastle-Under-Lyme candidate Dorinda Bailey responded to a post on the page referring to mosques that preach hate, which said: ‘Bomb the f***ing lot’. Miqdaad Versi has renewed calls for an inquiry into Islamophobia in the party.

The Huffington Post also reported that the party failed to expel a member who shared Islamophobic hate online and allegedly organised a far-right protest outside an MP’s office. Conservative Party peer Sayeeda Warsi also raised the case of a Tory member who appeared to have called Pakistani immigrants ‘animals’ and claimed that ‘no Muslim ever invented anything’. She called on party chairman Brandon Lewis to take action.

Lewis said  the man, who called himself Stephen John Letherbarrow in the posts, had been suspended from the party pending an investigation. Miqdaad Versi, spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Conservative Party of having a strategy that seeks to ‘ignore the issue until it goes away’. He told that the latest cases showed just how ‘expansive Islamophobia’ is in the Conservative Party, with incidents emerging on a ‘daily basis’, which had a ‘very negative impact on Muslim communities’.

 End.
