Mosque to hold CNY bash

The event will be a good opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims in the neighbourhood to get to know one another better.

Hawzah News Agency (Penang, Malaysia) - A Mosque in Tasek Gelugor, Butterworth, Penang, will hold a Chinese New Year open house to build a closer rapport with the Chinese community in the area.

Masjid Jamek committee chairman Khairul Anuar Musa said this would be the second year that the committee was holding the open house.

“More than 200 people of all races attended the event last year and we are expecting at least 300 this year through word of mouth.

“Expenses will be partly offset by the committee and the rest will be covered by public donations including those from companies,” he said when contacted.

Khairul added that the open house would be held at Tapak Kompleks Perniagaan Lama in Tasek Gelugor from 10am to 1pm this Sunday.

“We will add more varieties to this year’s food. We will serve halal Chinese cakes, satay, kuey teow, vermicelli, noodles, chicken rice, fruits and many other dishes.

“This will be a good opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims in the neighbourhood to mingle and get to know one another better,” he said.

Khairul said the event would show that the mosque is an open place that welcomes everyone.

“We will hold the open house annually if we get a good response from the community.”
