Islamic Association of Greater Detroit 40th Anniversary Celebration And To Become The Largest Mosque In North America

Hawzah News Agency (Detroit, US) - The Islamic Association of Greater Detroit will be hosting the 40th Anniversary Dinner on December 8, 2018 at 6:30pm. The event will be held at the Wyndham Garden Sterling Heights at 34911 Van Dyke Ave, Sterling Heights, MI 48312. Website: http://www.iagd.net

In 1978, with thirty member families, the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit was established as a non-profit organization. What started as a community of 100 families soon blossomed into 1,100 regularly attending families. “The Islamic Association of Greater Detroit sees an upward of 4,000 people during Islamic holiday celebrations,” says Ghaus Malik, Neurosurgeon from Henry Ford Hospital and one of the founding members of IAGD. IAGD also offers three types of schooling for youths: Saturday school for Islamic studies, Hifz (Arabic for “to memorize”) Quran and Noor Academy, which is a state-registered school including math, science and writing. The growing educational and youth programs demanded more classrooms for students and a gymnasium. “This is one of the largest institutions in the area, especially with the youth program, schools and number of families,” says Majeed Bhatti, president of the board of directors. “My four children all went to and learned to pray in our schools. It’s a blessing of God we were able to establish this facility.”

In addition to the 40th Anniversary Celebration, IAGD will be celebrating the expansion roll out from 39,000 sq. ft. to 82,000 sq. ft. The massive expansion will make this the largest Mosque in North America. The expansion project is slated to be complete in 2021. “We are anticipating over 1,100 attendees in the celebration of this monumental event” says Asad Malik, CEO & President of The Amerilodge group and CO HOST. The event is almost sold out, however some may be purchased at the door.
