Three Islamic State members arrested, west of Mosul: Interior Ministry

Three Islamic State members were arrested, west of Mosul, according to the Iraqi Interior Ministry.

Hawzah News Agency (Mosul, Iraq) - In a statement issued on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson for the ministry said “Nineveh police, in collaboration with citizens, managed to arrest three wanted Islamic State members, who were involved in terrorism charges.

One of them worked for the group’s so-called Hisbah (vigilantism) department, while another one worked for the group’s legislative department.

”aThe arrests took place in al-Zahraa and al-Intissar districts, the statement added.

On Friday, the ministry’s Security Media Center announced arresting twelve Islamic State members in several regions across the western side of Mosul.

In December, Iraq announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops.

Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.

The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

End.
