Amir’s wife calls on Qataris to boycott Hajj

Jawahir bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani, the wife of Qatar’s Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani urged Qatari’s to boycott Hajj this year.

Hawzah News Agency (Doha, Qatar) - Starting hashtags on Twitter such as #Hajj, A Trap for Qataris and #No to Qataris’ Participation in This Year’ Hajj, she opposed the participation of her country’s nationals in the pilgrimage.

She said Mecca is under the control of Saudi Arabia that has “chosen the path of enmity with us and banned (Qataris’ from entering the kingdom) throughout the year because it sees (Qatari nationals) a threat for its security.”

The move has sparked widespread criticism with some saying she is not a Mufti or religious scholar to comment on Hajj.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, along with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, cut diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar and imposed sanctions on Doha.

They have insisted that Doha must comply with a 13-point list of demands to refrain from “supporting and sponsoring terror and stop interfering in other countries’ internal affairs”.

Qatar has denied the charges and upgraded its ties with Iran and Turkey since then to decrease the impact of the sanctions.

End.
