۴۰ Quranic projects realised by Karbala-based center in ۱۰ Years

The Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of the Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq, has implemented 40 Quranic projects over the past ten years, an official said.

Hawzah News Agency (Karbala, Iraq) - Safa Silawi, in charge of the center’s media affairs, told that the center started its activities ten years ago.

Since then, he said, it has implemented 40 Quranic projects, one of the main outcomes of which is training some 1,000 memorizers of the Quran from all age groups.

With the grace of God, the objective of having 1,000 memorizers of the entire Quran will be achieved by the end of the year 2018, he stated.

One of the programs the center annually organizes is the Karbala Quran Award, which is held at the national level in three categories, namely memorization, recitation and Tafseer (interpretation) of the Quran, he noted.

As of next year, the competition is planned to be held internationally and with the participation of representatives from different countries, according to the official.

He further said the center has 10 branches in different provinces in Iraq’s central and southern provinces.

Also, it has recently launched a branch in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region north of the country, he said.

Referring to the center’s overseas activities, he said it has several branches in countries like Indonesia, Lebanon and Iran.

“We have also signed agreements (on Quranic activities) with Al-Azhar Islamic Center and Quranic centers in Iran and Indonesia,” Silawi said, adding that more such collaborations are planned to be launched with centers in Syria, Turkey and a number of African countries.

According to the official, the center’s branch in Indonesia is one of its major branches which, in addition to promoting Quranic activities, plays an important role in enhanced interactions between Iraq and the Southeast Asian country.

The branch is planned to turn into a major Quranic institute in South East Asia, he went on to say.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
