Iranian cultural center holds Quran contest in Damascus

A competition on Quran recitation and memorization of the entire Quran was organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in Damascus, Syria, in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Awqaf (endowments).

Hawzah News Agency (Damascus, Syria) – According to the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), it was the second edition of the competition held at Yalbogha Mosque in the capital city.

Abulfadhl Salehiniya, Iranian cultural attaché in Damascus, said in a speech at the closing ceremony of the competition that Iran seeks to disseminate and promote Quranic sciences and principles in the region.

He noted that the center plans to annually hold the Quranic event in the Arab country.

Mohammad Anas Al-Dawamanah, head of “Al-Asad” Quran Memorization Institute in Syria, and Raf’at Ali Daib, advisor to Syria’s minister of Awqaf in Quranic affairs and head of the judging board of the competition were other speakers at the closing ceremony.

The program continued with Quran recitation by Mohammad Ali Hamdow from Halab, who won the top rank in the recitation category of the competition.

Also, Hassan Barakat, the first rank winner of the Quranic lecture category of the international Quran competition in Tehran, presented a part of his lecture.

The winners of the top three prizes in the two categories of the competition were awarded at the end of the ceremony.
