 Visually-Impaired Quran Activists Honored in Mauritania

Top participants in a Quran competition held for the visually-impaired in Mauritania were awarded in a ceremony in Nouakchott, the capital.

Hawzah News Agency (Nouakchott, Mauritania) - The competition was organized by the Center for Training Scholars in cooperation with the Society for Supporting the Disabled.

The participants in the one-week Quranic event competed in four categories of memorization of the entire Quran, and memorization of half, a quarter and one Juz (part) of the Quran.

 

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammad Hassan Walad Al-Dadaw, head of the center, talked about the life of prominent Muslim scholars and stressed the necessity for following their guidelines and taking them as role-models in seeking knowledge.

He also urged the officials of the center to try their best to promote the skills of the disabled in the society.

 

 

Also addressing the program, Jamal Walad Abdul Jalil, head of the society, congratulated the winners and encouraged the Quran activists to compete in the next editions of the annual Quranic event as well.

Copies of the Holy Quran in Braille were also gifted to the top participants.

 

 

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country's population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims. 

 

 

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
