Leader grants clemency to ۷۱۵ Iranian prisoners

On the occasion of Nimeh Sha'aban, the birth anniversary of Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent), Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pardoned or commuted the sentences of 565 Iranian convicts.

Hawzah News Agency (Tehran, Iran) - The pardon was granted Tuesday at the request of the country's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.

Wednesday marks the 15th day of the lunar Hijri month of Sha'aban.

The auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Zaman (a.s.) is celebrated on this day by Shia Muslims worldwide.

Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.

The clemency, however, does not apply to certain types of convicts, including those who have been sentenced for their role in the armed struggle against the country, armed or organized drug trafficking, armed robbery, arms smuggling, abduction, bribery, and embezzlement.
