‘Rabee’-ul-Shahadah’ Int’l festival starts in Karbala

The 14th edition of “Rabee’-ul-Shahadah” (spring of martyrdom) international religious-cultural festival began in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq, on April 20.

Hawzah News Agency (Karbala, Iraq) - According to Al-Kafeel website, the opening ceremony of the program was attended by representatives of 33 countries.

It began with the recitation of Quranic verses by Husnayn Hulw, internationally known Iraqi Qari, and continued with speeches by Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Karbalayi, custodian of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine and representative of Grand Ayatollah Sistani, Shia source of emulation.

The program was also addressed by Seyyed Ala Mousawi, head of the Awqaf Office for Iraqi Shia Muslims, as well as representatives of some other countries.

Nazar Qatari also performed eulogies in praise of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in English, Arabic, Persian and Urdu at the opening ceremony.

Different groups from Asian, African and European countries have participated in this edition of the festival.

The international religious-cultural program is annually held on the birthday anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), Hazrat Abbas (AS) and Imam Sajjad (AS) in the lunar month of Shaaban. 

The three occasions fall on April 20, 21, and 22 this year.
