۳۵th International Quran competition kicks off in Iran

The 35th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition kicked off in the capital of Tehran.

Hawzah News Agency  (Tehran, Iran) - The opening ceremony was held at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) with a number of senior Quranic, religious and cultural officials, as well as contenders from different countries, in attendance.

The contests began in earnest on Friday morning with Quran memorizers and Qaris from 87 countries competing for the top prizes in the categories of memorization and recitation in the men’s section.

There are also four other sections for women, the visually-impaired, school students and seminary students.

According to the organizers, nearly 370 foreign guests, including the contenders, Quran experts and members of the panels, have arrived in Iran for the Quranic events.

They will go on until Tuesday and winners in different categories will be announced and awarded at the closing ceremony on Wednesday.

The contests are annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the aim of promoting Quranic activities and enhancing unity among Muslims.

There was also an international Quranic research conference held by the organization in the holy city of Qom earlier this week.
