Iran’s Shafiei leaves for Jordan to attend Int’l Quran contest

Maryam Shafiei, a memorizer of the entire Quran, headed to Jordan to represent Iran in the Arab country's international Quran competition for women. Shafiei is visually-impaired.

Hawzah News Agency (Tehran, Iran) - Shafiei, who is from Ivan, the southwestern province of Ilam, left Tehran for the Jordanian capital on Saturday night.

In an interview last month, she said she had practiced her Quranic skills for a year before winning the second title in Iran’s national Quran competition and being selected as the country’s contender in the international Quranic event.

"I will continue my efforts to have a successful presence in Jordan's contest," she added.

Shafiei, who is visually-impaired, started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 6 by listening to recorded Quran recitations and managed to memorize the entire Holy Book in a few years.

Jordan's 2018 international Quran competition for women is slated to be held in the Arab country's capital, Amman, from March 19 to 24.
