Hawzah News Agency (Tehran, Iran) - Speaking at a press conference today, cultural deputy of Iran’s Islamic propagation organization discussed about upcoming Itikaf ceremony in the country and the growing number of Itikaf performers.
Hujjat al-Islam Hussain Rouhani-nejad announced 770,000 people performed Itikaf this year and added, "Number of Itikaf performers this year saw a 21,000 people increase from the year before, but there were even more applicants, although there was not enough facilities to accept them in mosques, that means with enough facilities, number of Itikaf performers in Iran will raise to a million.”
The Shia cleric stated, “About 70% of Itikaf participants this year were young people, of whom more than 60% were women."
Hujjat al-Islam Rouhani-nejad further said that most of the Itikaf performers were educated and noted, “This year, most of those who performed Itikaf were university and seminary students with a population of more than 244,000, and only 15,000 illiterate people attended Itikaf.”
Stating that next Itikaf ceremony will be held on March 31st until April 2nd, Hujjat al-Islam Rouhani-nejad asserted people can register for Itikaf in person or online.
