Hamas: US VP Unwelcome in Middle East

Hamas denounced the US vice president’s trip to the Middle East, saying he is not at all welcome considering the US recognition of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel.

Hawzah News Agency (Occupied Territories of Palestine) - Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said there is no reason for Pence’s tour of the Middle East following the US administration’s move to declare al-Quds capital of Israel.

“Nobody would welcome him (Pence),” Barhoum added, stressing that Hamas will keep up efforts to combat the US and Israeli plots against Palestine.

Pence arrived in Egypt on Saturday on the first leg of his Middle East tour, marred by continuing anger over US President Donald Trump’s announcement on December 6 that Washington would move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Quds.

After Egypt, Pence is due to visit Jordan and Israel, where he is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His trip was initially scheduled to take place in December.
