Explosion Destroys Mosque in Afghanistan’s Nangarahr

A heavy explosion took place inside a mosque in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan which resulted into the destruction of the mosque building. The anti-government armed militants had earlier detonated explosives inside another mosque in Momand Dara.

Hawzah News Agency (Kabul, Afghanistan) - The provincial government media office in a statement said the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Momand Dara district after several landmines stored inside the mosque by the militants went off.

The statement further added that the explosion also caused damage to the nearby buildings besides causing heavy loss to the building of the mosque.

 

According to the Nangarhar government, several religious books and materials, including copies of the Holy Quran also sustained damages in the explosion.

The anti-government armed militants had earlier detonated explosives inside another mosque in Momand Dara which resulted into the killing of a prayer leader of the mosque besides injuring eight others.

 

The provincial governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal strongly condemned today’s incident and called it an unforgivable crime.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents and other militants affiliated with the other insurgent groups have not commented regarding the incident so far.
