Sydney Islamic Center to Mark Martyrdom of Hazrat Roqayya

The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Sydney, Australia, will host ceremonies to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Ruqayya (SA).

Hawzah News Agency - The programs will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 28-29, with the participation of followers of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

 

Muslim preacher Hujjat-al-Islam Seyed Ahmad Kazemi will address the two events, speaking about Hazrat Roqayya (SA) as a symbol of resistance against oppression and injustice.

 

Congregational prayers and mourning rituals will be among other parts of the programs.

 

Hazrat Roqayya (SA) was the three-year-old daughter of Imam Hussein (AS) who was martyred in captivity by the army of Yazid after the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

 

The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Sydney has been established by Shia Muslims of Pakistani origin.

 

Its activities include religious programs and mourning ceremonies during the months of Muharram and Safar in the lunar Hijri calendar.

 

Muslims make up around 5 percent of the population in Australia. Sydney has more Muslims than any other city in the country.
