Site: Daesh beheads ‘Russian officer’ in front of camera

The Takfiri Daesh terror group has released video footage purportedly showing the beheading of a Russian intelligence officer captured in Syria, a report says.

Hawzah News Agency (USA) - The SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based organization that tracks terrorists’ online activities, reported the emergence of the 12-minute Russian-language video on Tuesday.

Russian officials are yet to comment on the matter.

The footage shows a Takfiri militant clad in black ranting before proceeding to behead the purported agent, according to the report.

The executioner is seen in the video urging Russian agents to surrender and saying, “This idiot believed the promises of his state not to abandon him if he was captured.”

The group has used expertly-crafted footage as a means of intimidation on numerous occasions. Such propaganda videos have featured Daesh terrorists executing people of various nationalities, including Russians and Japanese.

In September 2015, Russia started lending its air power to the Syrian military’s counterterrorism operations. The support has proven considerably effective against the Takfiri terrorists, among other foreign-backed

militants operating against the Damascus government since 2011.

Daesh released a video in November that year, threatening attacks inside Russia in retaliation for the back-up airstrikes. The video featured chants of “Soon, very soon, the blood will spill like an ocean.”

The terrorist group seized swathes of Syria after taking on the country in 2014. Its turf, however, started to dwindle since the launch of the Russian operations, and has now been reduced to the northern city of Raqqah.
