“According to Ahl-ul-Bayt’s (as) teachings, if one waters a thirsty tree, it’s as though they have quenched a faithful man’s thirst." said Ayatollah Javadi.

Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) – In a ceremony to mark the Iranian National Tree Planting Day which is annually celebrated on March 5, Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli, a senior Shia cleric, planted a tree in the presence of Iranian Organization of Environment’s officials in Qom on Sunday.

During the event, the Shia source of emulation asserted, “The environmental issues have received a lot of attention in Islam and hadiths; Islam regards such natural resources as divine blessings and stresses that access to clean environment and weather is the legitimate right of every society.” Hawzah reported.

He added, “According to Ahl-ul-Bayt’s (as) teachings, if one waters a thirsty tree, it’s as though they have quenched a faithful man’s thirst. This analogy demonstrates our religious duty to protect the environment we live in and also to promote the tradition of planting trees and avoiding damage done to our natural habitat.”
