Muslims hold annual parade in New York

31st Annual United American Muslim Day Parade kicked off in Manhattan while Khizr Khan the father of killed soldier in Iraq criticized GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Hawzah News Agency- Scores of Muslims waved American flags as they marched in the annual Muslim Day Parade in New York City.

Sunday's 31st Annual United American Muslim Day Parade kicked off at 38th Street in Manhattan. The revelers, many clutching flowers, marched down Madison Avenue to 24th Street in Manhattan.

Members of the NYPD Muslim Officers Society also marched.

The street fair featured spoken word and musical performances, Halal food and drinks and other family-friendly activities. According to a flyer, this year's theme was "For God and Country."

The parade's grand marshal was Khizr (KY'-zur) Khan, whose son was killed while protecting other soldiers in Iraq. Khan appeared at the Democratic National Convention and held up a copy of the U.S. Constitution while criticizing GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
