Imam Mousa al-Sadr is a Shia scholar who was kidnapped on August 31, 1978 during his trip to Libya after receiving an invitation from Libyan officials; he is still missing after 38 years.

Hawzah News Agency- Mahdi Firouzan, a relative of Imam Mousa al-Sadr, the missing Iranian-Lebanese philosopher and Shi'a religious leader, had an interview with Hawzah News saying, "We've had several meetings with Libyan authorities as well as other relevant pundits on Imam Mousa al-Sadr's status and have come to the conclusion that he is still alive, our investigations to find his location are under way,"

Imam Mousa al-Sadr's Trip to Libya

Mahdi Firouzan, Imam Mousa al-Sadr's nephew, further elaborated on Sadr's motivations for his trip to Libya and added, "At the time, Lebanon was in the midst of enemy conspiracies. The Zionist army was assaulting Lebanese borders and even occupied some parts of Lebanese lands,  on the other hand, Lebanon was suffering from civil war and  internal disputes, not a day went ]by without unrest in the country. These challenges persuaded Imam Mousa al-Sadr to discuss with Arab leaders in order to solve Lebanon's crisis at the time,"

He went on, "Imam Mousa al-Sadr received an official request from the Algerian president at the time, Houari Boumediene, then he decided to visit Libya hoping to inform its president of the future status of Lebanon as well as Israel's' dangerous plots,"

 

Libyan Officials believe Imam Mousa al-Sadr is alive

Mahdi Firouzan then referred to the recent news on Mousa al-Sadr's current status and asserted, "Prior to Gadhafi's fall,  our information concerning Imam Mousa's condition had been gathered from the international intelligence agencies as well as negotiations held with world leaders, but following the Libyan revolution, we've received some fresh news from new Libyan authorities. They firmly believe Imam Mousa al-Sadr is still alive. Some authentic information has been recieved from Mousa al-Sadr's prison guard who claimed he would liberate the Shia scholar provided Tripoli falls. So in conclusion we've been informed of Imam Mousa al-Sadr's current condition after the Libyan revolution.    

"Libyan authorities have signed a joint memorandum of cooperation with Lebanese officials in order to conduct an operation to put their Intel together and locate Imam Mousa al-Sadr's whereabouts," Firouzan concluded.
