Senior Daesh members detained near Mosul

Iraqi police in the northern city of Mosul said 13 senior members of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group have been detain captured near the city.

Hawzah News Agency (Mosul, Iraq) - Hamd Naims al-Jabouri, the commander of the police forces in Nineveh Governorate, said the security forces have managed to arrest the terrorist leaders in successful attacks on Daesh cells in Badush town some 25 kilometers northwest of Mosul.

He said among those detained is Abu Sakhra al-Mamuni, the Daesh Mufti of northwest Mosul.

Jabouri said the extensive attacks on Daesh were launched after a rise in kidnappings and terrorist activities by the militants in the area.

Those arrested have been transferred to the Nineveh Operations Headquarters for interrogation, he said, adding that they will be then handed over to judicial authorities.

In December 2017, Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the end of military operations against Daesh in the Arab country.

However, remnants of the group still commit sporadic acts of violence and terrorism in the Arab country.

Daesh began a terror campaign in Iraq in 2014, overrunning vast swathes in lightning attacks.

End.
