Important role of lady Goharshad endowment in expanding the Culture of Pilgrimage

The professor of Al-Mustafa International University in Mashhad, arguing that Imam Reza's (a.s.) Court is highly regarded by Muslims including Shias and Sunnis, said, "Lady Goharshad's endowment has an outstanding position in expanding the culture of pilgrimage."

Hawzah News Agency  (Mashhad, Iran) - Hujjat al-Islam Gholam Reza Rezayi, at the press conference of the scientific seminar "Razavi Culture and Lady Goharshad" which was held at the Islamic Research Foundation of Astan Quds Razavi, explained the impact of Lady Goharshad's endowments on the progress of the pilgrimage culture.

“Holding the scientific conference 'Razavi Culture and Lady Goharshad' provides the grounds for the scholars of the two countries of Iran and Afghanistan to come together in order to understand the different aspects of the endowments of the Lady Goharshad, which have left many lasting effects in these two regions" he stated.

“The recommendation to visit the Grave of Imam Reza (a.s.) as son of the Prophet (s.a.w.) has been raised in the narratives and historic books of Shia and Sunni. Hence, the deed of Lady Goharshad as an influential member of the Timurid ruling who possessed wisdom, rationality, art and benevolence is very significant” referring to the expansion of the culture of pilgrimage in the Islamic society, Rezayi added.

“The interest of this benevolent Lady to Imam Reza (a.s.) and Sadat is derived from Quranic and Prophetic teachings. Lady Goharshad donated a beautiful and magnificent mosque that is the symbol of Islamic civilization near Imam Reza's (A.S.) Holy Shrine, and the endowment of the lands and other buildings that provided the expenses of this mosque shows the providence of this lady” he said.

The professor of Al-Mustafa International University in Mashhad mentioned the advice to use the surplus income of endowments for needy pilgrims and neighboring people, a sign of her interest in the culture of charity and pointed out "This deed encourages and promotes the culture of pilgrimage in the Islamic society and also it is one the most important factors to create a religious metropolis."

He, who will be present at the scientific conference "Razavi Culture and Lady Goharshad" as one of the authors from Afghanistan said, "The existence of a religious metropolis like Mashhad, which is adorned with the Shrine of Imam Reza (a.s.) has provided the grounds for establishment of many scientific, educational, spiritual and service centers including Parizad School, Mirza Jafar School and other scientific and cultural centers."

“The presence of women in Iran’s civilization building, rational strengthening, the role of women in culture and its promotion, the presence of women in the reconstruction of Afghanistan’s collapsed society, the examination of challenges and traumas of presence of the Afghan women in different areas etc., are some topics of lectures in the scientific meeting” Rezayi added, pointing to the topic of the lecture.

Mosque; the Most Important Factor for the Religious Education of Society

"The mosque in religious culture is the most sacred place for the Lord, since it is the place of production of religious knowledge and spirituality and transcendence of believers' soul, as well as the position of the earthly connection with the Lord Almighty and the heavens. Another function of the mosque is the relationship of believers with scholars and religious leaders and other believers. That is why, the Prophet (s.a.w.), when entering Madinah, builds a mosque because the mosque in religious culture is the most important factor for the establishment of Islamic civilization” Rezayi said, highlighting the position of the mosque in religious culture.

"Friday congregational prayers and Eid prayers and sermon circles held in the mosque are the most important elements for the religious education of the society and at the beginning of Islam, the mosque was a place for solving the personal and social problems of believers, in which they made grave social and political decisions. This holy place even was the ruling headquarters of the Prophet (s.a.w.) and Imam Ali (a.s.)" he expressed.

"The presence of Imam Reza's (a.s.) Illuminated Shrine and the building of Goharshad Mosque are the most important components for the preservation and strengthening of Islamic civilization and the establishment of a religious metropolis, and moreover, these two factors are the most important reason for attracting scholars and other believers toward this city as the center of the Islamic civilization and culture of the Timurid era.

Hence, the endowment of Goharshad Mosque by Lady Goharshad is a turning point in pushing the government to pay attention to the manifestations of Islamic civilization and establishing effective and lasting cultural, religious, artistic and service centers for future generations" the director of Imam Reza's Research Center remarked.
