We will convey the fight against oppression to future generations

In response to the final decision to dissolve the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, this Bahraini Shi'a opposition group emphasized that they will convey the struggle against tyranny to future generations.

Hawzah News Agency (Manama, Bahrain) - In a statement, Bahrain’s al-Wefaq National Islamic Society reacted to the final decision of the Supreme Court of Bahrain to dissolve the society, saying, "The final decision to dissolve the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society is based on the al-Bandar plan, which was revealed by one of King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah's advisers [Salah al-Bandar] after his departure from Bahrain."

The Shi’a opposition group's statement added that the 500-page report was part of a large plan to create divisiveness in Bahraini society and destroy its social spectrums by using various methods, in particular the dissolution of political groups and the use of the power of security forces against them.

Al-Wefaq stated that the dissolution of the opposing societies was by no means logical and no wise or intelligent government would carry out such an action and this action proves the indecisiveness and instability of a regime that has lost its self-confidence.

They added, "Al-Wefaq, the National Democratic Action Society – Wa'ad, the Islamic Action Society and all national groups and personalities are rooted in the history of the country, with al-Wefaq gaining more than 64% of the vote in the 2006 and 2010 elections."

The group said that al-Wefaq has been pursuing national projects since its inception, and has rescued Bahrain from dangerous abysses through its discourse and actions, while some parts of the regime are about to collapse.

Bahrain’s al-Wefaq emphasized the commitment to peaceful national engagement and service to all Bahrainis, and continued, "The actions of the regime cannot distance al-Wefaq from its calls for the establishment of a justice-centred state, the fight against corruption and terrorism, the theft of wealth, the plundering of the country and the marginalization of citizens by the regime."

The al-Wefaq National Islamic Society added that Bahrain is more than a homeland and we will never allow its unity, history and identity to be violated and it is a religious and national duty that we must adhere to and pass on our fight against oppression, deprivation and theft, tyranny to future generations.

This society warned all people about the security, political, economic and humanitarian developments and the continuation of the aggression against the country and the waste of the country's public assets and emphasized the need to transform Bahrain into a democracy and fulfill the demands of the people.

Bahrain's supreme court of appeal has upheld the dissolution of the country's main Shi'a opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, as the ruling Al Khalifah regime presses ahead with its heavy-handed clampdown on political dissidents and pro-democracy campaigners in the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.

On Monday, the Court of Cassation turned down an earlier appeal to challenge al-Wefaq's dissolution and seizure of its assets, and upheld a previous ruling.
On July 17, 2016, the Bahraini High Administrative Court ordered the dissolution of al-Wefaq and the seizure of its funds.
