Austria has passed a law intended to ban Muslim girls from wearing a headscarf in primary schools. The Jewish yarmulke and Sikh patka are not included in the new measure.

Austria’s right-wing government has introduced a draft law to Parliament to ban headscarves for girls under the age of ۱۰ in primary schools, planning to implement it without the support of the opposition in a 'symbolic act' to protect it from "attacks" on the country's mainstream culture. However, the fact that kippas, worn by Jewish men and boys, will not be banned as well has stirred controversy, with many accusing the government of religious discrimination and sexism.
